Anne’s Story

Meet Anne

My name is Anne and my middle name literally is Story. So, here is mine:  This is not what I thought I’d be doing 25+ years ago, when I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree, in Psychology, from the University of Kansas. Yes, I am a Jayhawk.  Please don’t hold that against me.

It was 1994 when I realized that the Sign Language courses I took at KU were more than just electives, they were an absolute passion.  Three years later, I received my Masters in Deaf Education from Illinois State University, and before my children were born, was a Teacher for the Deaf in Alton.  While I’m not a certified interpreter, I can sign, and enjoy doing so through song.

My children are now grown (19 & 14 at time of writing) and I realize my new passion is caring for the aging population and those that simply need a little more time, understanding, and personal attention.

My most recent position, as an Activities Specialist at a premier senior community, for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia, gave me more experience and made me realize I could bring activities to those who either can’t afford that lifestyle, or who can, but choose to age at home. I welcome the opportunity to bring Senior Care with Flair to whatever lifestyle you have chosen.

Personal Care Services

Being lonely is so common for seniors. Seasonal affective disorder can be offset with daily visits, outings, even just opening a curtain and singing a song together. Music is such a powerful activity to use with those with dementia.  Playing and listening to music can improve one’s mood and manage stress.  I was blessed to have grown up in a household that played all types of music, from Sinatra to Brubeck to Chuck Berry, and The Temptations.  I always have music on hand and most likely can play any song.

Senior Care with Flair specializes in:

  • Engaging conversation – stories about childhood; looking through scrapbooks
  • Singing (I like to incorporate Sign Language with some songs)
  • Music
  • Games
  • Respite Care (when you can’t be there, I can)
  • Keeping loved ones informed of their Senior’s day (if they choose this option and sign a release), through photos and videos.

My Personal Care services are available to anyone who would benefit from having a trusting, compassionate and energetic companion in their life. These services are available mornings, mid-day, and afternoons.

Optional Social Networking Services

Keeping your out-of-town loved ones connected to family through social networking services such as Skype, FaceTime, Cluster, etc.
